Editorial Policy
Last updated 7 October 2026
Our guides help Canberra homeowners make decisions about electrical work: when a switchboard needs replacing, whether a battery is worth it, what an EV charger involves. People act on that advice in their homes, so we hold it to the same standard as the work we do on site. This page explains how our content is written, checked and kept up to date.
Editorial guidelines
- Written for homeowners. Plain English, practical answers first, with the detail after for people who want it.
- Local where it matters. We explain how things work in the ACT and the Queanbeyan region: local rules, rebates, the electricity network and the kinds of homes we see.
- Safety first. We never publish step-by-step instructions for electrical work. In the ACT and NSW it must be done by a licensed electrician, and we say so.
- Honest about limits. Where the answer depends on your home, we say what it depends on rather than guessing. Rebates, loans and rules change, so we date our articles and tell you where to check.
- Independent. We are not paid to mention products. Brands appear only as examples, and nothing is sponsored.
- Clearly ours. Every article names who wrote it and who reviewed it, with a link to their profile.
Fact-checking
Before an article is published:
- Every factual claim (a rule, a rebate, a technical figure, a date) is checked against the source it came from. If we cannot find a reliable source, the claim comes out.
- Rules, rebates and loan schemes are re-checked on the government page on the day of publishing, because they change often.
- The sources we relied on are listed at the end of each article, so you can check them yourself.
- Articles show the date they were published and, when they have been revised, the date they were last updated. We review our guides regularly and whenever a rule or scheme they cover changes.
Expert sources
We prefer primary sources, in roughly this order:
- Regulators and legislation: Access Canberra, WorkSafe ACT, the ACT Legislation Register, NSW Fair Trading and the Building Commission NSW.
- Standards and safety bodies: the Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000) and guidance from electrical safety regulators such as ERAC and state safety offices.
- Network operators: Evoenergy in the ACT and Essential Energy around Queanbeyan, for connections, metering and supply.
- Government energy programs: ACT Government climate and energy programs, the Clean Energy Regulator, Energy Rating and YourHome.
- Data: the Australian Bureau of Statistics for information about Canberra suburbs and homes.
- Independent consumer research such as CHOICE, clearly attributed when we use it.
We do not rely on forums, social media posts or unattributed claims. Our own experience on the tools is part of every article, and we make clear when something is our view from the job rather than a published fact.
Content creation process
- Choosing topics. We write about the questions customers actually ask us, and the jobs people in Canberra request most.
- Research and writing. We use AI tools to help research content, working from the sources above. Our team writes and edits every article, and it is checked by people before it goes live.
- Technical review. Andre Menager, a licensed electrician and co-owner, reviews every article for technical accuracy and safety. Articles show who reviewed them.
- Editorial check. Ben Myatt-Bocarro, our marketing manager, edits every article: he checks the facts against the listed sources, the clarity of the writing and the links.
- Publishing and upkeep. We publish with the author, reviewer, dates and sources shown, then revisit the article when the facts it relies on change.
