Electricians in Googong
Googong is a master-planned town about ten kilometres south of Queanbeyan’s centre, on the NSW side of the border. Civil works started in 2012 and the first residents moved in during February 2014. By its tenth birthday it had roughly 7,400 people in about 2,600 homes, and it is planned to reach around 18,000.
That makes Googong a very different job from Canberra’s older suburbs. We rarely find ceramic fuses or tired wiring here. What owners want is to build on a sound starting point: charge an electric car, store their solar, cool the house properly in summer and add the power points the builder left out.
What Googong homes are like
Almost every house in Googong has gone up since 2014, built by volume and custom builders across the town’s neighbourhoods. The wiring was installed to recent standards, with safety switches on the power and lighting circuits, and solar panels are a common sight on the roofs. The town was designed with sustainability in mind, including a water recycling scheme and a 5-Star Green Star Communities rating.
The catch with a newer build is that the switchboard and garage were planned for the day of handover, not for what came next. It is common to find one garage power point, few outdoor outlets and a board with only a couple of spare positions. When an owner adds an EV charger, a battery and a split system in the main bedroom, that spare space goes quickly. Planning several additions together means the board is reworked once instead of three times.
Because Googong is in NSW, finished work is certified with a NSW CCEW instead of an ACT certificate, and changes to solar or batteries go through the NSW network operator rather than Evoenergy. Your electricity bill shows which network supplies your street, and we deal with them on your behalf.
The jobs Googong owners ask us about
- EV chargers. Top of the list. A wall charger in the garage on its own circuit, often set up to use daytime solar. See EV charger installation.
- Solar and batteries. Mostly batteries added to existing panels, plus larger systems for homes that have gone all-electric. More on solar and batteries.
- Heating and cooling. Circuits for extra split systems and heat pump hot water. Our heating and cooling page has details.
- Switchboards, fans and power. Extra circuits, garage and outdoor outlets, and ceiling fans for upstairs bedrooms. See switchboards and power and fans and exhaust.
Asking for a quote
Tell us what you want to add through the free quote form, or call 0434 913 935. A photo of the switchboard and the garage wall helps. We reply within 24 hours, visit to look at the job, and confirm a fixed price in writing before any work starts. When it is done, we test it, lodge the CCEW and email you a copy. Fused Electrical is licensed, insured and rated 5.0 on Google.
