Electricians in Queanbeyan
Queanbeyan sits just over the border from Canberra, and plenty of our enquiries come from this side of it. We look after homes across the city and the suburbs around it: Jerrabomberra, Googong, Karabar and Crestwood, with Bungendore further out. Most calls are about old switchboards, new ceiling or exhaust fans, solar and lighting.
The main thing to know is that Queanbeyan is in NSW. Electrical work here follows NSW rules, which differ from Canberra’s in a few practical ways. The local network belongs to Essential Energy rather than Evoenergy, and finished work is certified with a NSW Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW). We handle that paperwork as part of every job.
Queanbeyan homes and what they need
Queanbeyan was proclaimed a town in 1838 and has grown in waves since. The streets near the centre still have plenty of mid-century cottages and some older homes. Many have had piecemeal additions over the years, so we often find a mix of old and new cabling, fuse boards with no room left, and too few power points for a modern kitchen.
Karabar and Crestwood are mostly 1970s and 80s brick homes. Here the usual job is replacing the original board with circuit breakers and safety switches on every circuit, then adding circuits for air conditioning or solar.
Jerrabomberra opened its first blocks in 1988 and filled out through the 1990s and 2000s. Wiring there is generally sound, but switchboards were sized before batteries, EV chargers and ducted heat pumps, so capacity is the common question.
Googong is the newest of the group. Construction began in 2012 and the first residents moved in during 2014. Those homes need fewer repairs and more additions: battery storage, EV charging, extra outdoor lighting and data points.
The jobs we are asked for most in Queanbeyan
- Switchboards and power. In Queanbeyan itself, switchboard work is the job we are asked to quote most often. See our switchboard upgrades page for what an upgrade involves.
- Fans and exhaust. Ceiling fans for summer and bathroom exhaust fans to deal with winter condensation. Details on our fans and exhaust page.
- Solar and batteries. Popular across Jerrabomberra, Googong and Karabar. Any change to solar or a battery also needs the network operator’s approval for the connection. Read more on solar and batteries.
- Lighting. LED downlight swaps, pendants and garden lighting, especially in Jerrabomberra. Our lighting page covers the options.

For most jobs we give a fixed price before we start, so the number you agree to is the number you pay. When the work is done we test it, lodge the CCEW and email you a copy for your records. Fused Electrical is licensed and insured, and our owners have 35+ years of combined experience.
If you are on the Canberra side of the border, our ACT suburb pages explain how things work there.
