Electricians in Karabar
Karabar is Queanbeyan’s southern suburb, sitting on the slopes below Mount Jerrabomberra with the Queanbeyan River along its eastern edge. Around 8,500 people lived here at the 2021 Census, mostly in detached brick homes, with a fair number of townhouses and duplexes mixed through the streets around the shopping centre and Karabar High School.
The job we are asked to quote most often in Karabar is solar and batteries. Many enquiries come from owners who already have panels on the roof. What they want now is to store more of that power, and that usually raises a second question about the switchboard.
Karabar homes and what they need
Karabar grew mainly through the 1970s and 80s, with houses first and townhouse developments added into the mid 1980s. Roughly four in five homes are separate houses and almost one in six is a semi-detached or townhouse, so strata rules come into play more than in many Queanbeyan streets.
The original boards. A house built in the 70s was wired for a household with one television and a single heater. Plenty of Karabar homes still have the board they were built with, often with ceramic fuses and no safety switches, and nowhere to fit the extra circuits a battery, an air conditioner or an induction cooktop needs. Replacing the board first makes everything after it simpler.
Solar that is getting older. Many early systems are now on their second inverter, or due for one. When a battery is on the table, it is worth looking at the inverter, the panel condition and the metering together rather than bolting a battery onto equipment near the end of its life.
Homes to rent and to keep. About three in ten homes here are rented, and the suburb has hosted a local housing cooperative since 1986. Landlords tend to ask for safety switch upgrades and dependable exhaust fans; owner occupiers lean toward solar and comfort.
The jobs we are asked for most in Karabar
Solar and batteries. New systems, replacement inverters and batteries added to existing arrays, with the Essential Energy connection paperwork handled as part of the job. See solar and batteries.

Fans and exhaust. Bathroom fans ducted outside to stop winter mould, and ceiling fans for hot summer nights. Read more on fans and exhaust.
NSW rules, handled
Because Karabar is in NSW, our ACT licence covers the work under automatic mutual recognition, the network is Essential Energy’s rather than Evoenergy’s, and every finished job is certified with a NSW CCEW. We lodge it and email you a copy.
