Electricians in Bonner
Bonner is on the north-eastern edge of Gungahlin, where the streets stop at the fence of Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve. The land was the Horse Park sheep run from the 1850s, the streets were named in 2008, and the first residents moved in around 2010. The suburb honours Neville Bonner, Australia’s first Aboriginal federal parliamentarian.

Bonner homes and what they need
Bonner was laid out with sunlight in mind, and many blocks are oriented to make good use of it. The 2021 Census shows a suburb of large, recently bought family homes: close to nine in ten dwellings are separate houses, more than half have four or more bedrooms and more than half are owned with a mortgage. There are almost no apartments. Medium density housing is limited to the area around the local centre on Mabo Boulevard.
That mix leads to a fairly predictable set of needs:
- Boards sized for the original plans. A 2010s project home usually came with a board that fitted the circuits the builder installed and not much more. Batteries, car chargers, extra split systems and pool pumps all need somewhere to go.
- Good solar roofs. North facing roofs suit panels, and many Bonner homes already have them. The next step for a lot of owners is a battery or a bigger inverter.
- Gas still in the house. Bonner was built before the ACT stopped new residential gas connections in December 2023, so many homes still have gas hot water or heating that owners now want to replace.
- Living beside the reserve. Backyards on the reserve edge are dark at night. Sensible outdoor lighting helps with safety without lighting up the bush.
The jobs we are asked for most in Bonner
Switchboard work is the job Bonner residents ask us to quote most often. That means extending or replacing boards, adding circuits, sorting out safety switches that trip and making room for new equipment. See switchboards and power.
Across Gungahlin more broadly, the next most common requests are lighting, fans and exhaust and solar and batteries, and Bonner homes need all three. If a battery or EV charger installation is on your list, mention it when you ask about the board, as it changes what size of upgrade makes sense.
