Electricians in Gungahlin
Gungahlin is one of the areas we get the most quote requests from, and the work varies a lot depending on which part of the district you live in. A house in Ngunnawal built in the early 1990s needs different things from a townhouse beside the light rail or a brand new all-electric home in Taylor.
We are a family owned and run Canberra electrical business, and the owners bring 35+ years of combined experience to the work. We are licensed and insured, and rated 5.0 on Google. We quote every job at a fixed price, so you know the cost before any work starts.
Gungahlin homes and what they need
Gungahlin was launched as a new town in 1991, and the first suburbs, Palmerston and Ngunnawal among them, filled up through the 1990s. Those homes are now around 30 years old. Their switchboards were set up for a household of that era, not one running solar, ducted or split system air conditioning and a car on charge in the garage. When owners add any of those, the board is usually the first thing we look at, along with safety switch coverage on every circuit.
The district then kept growing outwards. Suburbs like Taylor, Throsby, Jacka and Moncrieff are much newer, and Taylor only started being built in 2017. Since 8 December 2023 the ACT has stopped new gas network connections for residential buildings, so the newest homes are all-electric by default. That shifts the work towards EV charger installation, batteries, heat pump hot water and making sure the main switch and circuits can carry it all at once.
The 2021 Census counted about two thirds of Gungahlin homes as separate houses, with roughly a third being townhouses or apartments. Much of that denser housing sits around the town centre and the light rail line to Civic, which opened in 2019. In a complex, anything touching common property (meter boards, shared walls, basement car parks) normally needs the owners corporation to approve it first, so we put the scope in writing for your committee.
The jobs we are asked for most in Gungahlin
These are the services Gungahlin residents ask us to quote most often, in order:
- Switchboards and power: board upgrades on 1990s homes, extra power points, safety switches and fault finding when a circuit keeps tripping.
- Lighting: swapping old halogen downlights for LEDs, pendants over kitchen islands, and sensor lights for driveways and side paths.
- Fans and exhaust: ceiling fans for bedrooms that heat up in summer, and bathroom exhaust fans ducted outside to deal with winter condensation.
- Solar and batteries: batteries added to existing solar, and new systems on homes that went up without them.
- Security systems: CCTV, video doorbells and intercoms, which come up often in townhouse and apartment complexes.
If you are planning a renovation or adding a few of these together, tell us everything in one request. It is often cheaper to run the cabling once.
Getting a quote
Send us a few details through the free quote form, with photos of your switchboard if the job involves one. We reply within 24 hours, then either quote from the photos or book a time to look in person. The price we give is fixed, and the work is done by a licensed electrician (licence 476229C). For anything urgent during business hours, call 0434 913 935 and we will tell you honestly how soon we can get there. We do not run an after-hours service, so if a fault looks dangerous at night or on a weekend, turn the power off at the main switch if it is safe to do so and ring Evoenergy’s faults line.
We work across all of Gungahlin, from the original suburbs through to the newest estates, plus the nearby village of Hall. Every suburb we cover in the district is listed below.
