Electricians in Stirling
Stirling is a small, quiet suburb in the middle of Weston Creek, bounded by Holder, Weston, Rivett, Chapman, Fisher and Waramanga. It was gazetted in 1970 and built up from 1972, one of the last two Weston Creek suburbs to be developed. The name honours Sir James Stirling, the first Governor of Western Australia, and the streets are named after pioneers from that state. The old Weston campus of Canberra College on Fremantle Drive is now the Hedley Beare Centre for Teaching and Learning.
What stands out about Stirling for an electrician is who lives in the houses. Census figures show more than four in ten homes are owned outright, and the median age is in the mid forties. Many owners have been in the same house for decades and are now renovating rather than moving.
Stirling homes and what they need
Big houses, older wiring. Over 80 per cent of Stirling dwellings are separate houses, and more than half have four or more bedrooms. Those homes were wired in the early 1970s and have usually been added to in stages: a rumpus room, a converted garage, an ensuite. Each addition tends to bring its own circuit tacked onto the original board, so we often find a mix of rewireable fuses and newer breakers, with safety switch protection that only covers part of the house.
Renovations that stop at the walls. A new kitchen or bathroom is a good time to sort out what is behind the plaster. Once the cabinets and tiles go back on, getting to old cable gets much harder and more expensive. We are happy to work alongside your builder or tiler so the electrical work lands at the right stage.
Staying at home for longer. Families often ask us for safer lighting on steps, paths and hallways so a parent can keep living in the house they know. Bright LED fittings, sensor lights and well placed switches make a real difference at night.
The jobs we are asked for most in Stirling
- Lighting tops the list: LED downlights to replace old fittings, outdoor sensor lights, and better lighting in kitchens and hallways. See our lighting page.
- Switchboards and power is equal first. That means replacing mixed fuse and breaker boards and adding power points to rooms that have only one or two. More on switchboard upgrades.
- Fans and exhaust is the other common job, usually a ducted bathroom exhaust fan or ceiling fans in bedrooms during a renovation. Read about fans and exhaust.
