Electricians in Weston
Weston is the commercial middle of Weston Creek. Cooleman Court, which opened in 1978, sits on its northern side, and the suburb runs south and east from there to the edge of Woden. The name comes from a homestead built in the area around 1835, and the streets are named after artists. Homes went up from about 1970, in the first wave of Weston Creek building.
We help Weston owners with two quite different kinds of property. Most people live in a freestanding family house, but around one dwelling in five is a townhouse or semi-detached home. Both groups tend to ask us for the same things: better lighting, a safer board, and a way off gas heating.
Weston homes and what they need
Original family houses. Census figures show most Weston houses have three or four bedrooms or more. Built around 1970, the untouched ones were wired for a household with a few lamps, a stove, a fridge and a gas or oil heater. Typical finds today are rewireable fuses, safety switches covering only some circuits, kitchens short on power points, and halogen downlights added in a 1990s renovation. A board from that era is the first thing we look at, because nearly every upgrade you might want depends on it.
Townhouses and small complexes. Weston’s townhouses usually have their own board, either in the unit or in a shared meter room. Work inside your walls is yours to arrange. Anything that touches common property, such as roof cabling, outside lights on the building or a charger in a shared car park, needs the owners corporation to sign off first.
Leaving gas behind. Plenty of Weston homes still run a gas wall furnace or ducted gas. Swapping that for reverse cycle air conditioning means new dedicated circuits, and on an older board the space and supply both need checking before you buy anything.
The jobs we are asked for most in Weston
- Lighting is the most common request from Weston. That covers LED downlights to replace halogens and old fluorescent tubes, pendants over a renovated kitchen, and sensor lights for driveways and back paths. See our lighting page.
- Switchboards and power comes up just as often: full board replacements, safety switches on every circuit, and extra power points where a 1970 floor plan never planned for today’s appliances. More on switchboard upgrades.
- Heating and cooling circuits follow, mostly for split systems going in as the gas heater comes out. Read about heating and cooling.
