Electricians in Harrison
Harrison sits on the east side of the Gungahlin town centre, with Flemington Road and its light rail stops along the western edge. The name was set aside in 1991, but the first estate was not sold until 2003, so most homes here date from the mid 2000s onwards. The suburb is named after Peter Harrison, the planner who helped bring Walter Burley Griffin’s plan for Canberra back to life.
We are a Calwell based, family owned and run electrical business with 35+ years of combined experience. We are licensed (476229C) and insured, and each Harrison job is quoted at a fixed price.
Harrison homes and what they need
Harrison has two quite different halves. Just over half of its dwellings are separate houses, about half of all homes have four or more bedrooms, and close to three in ten are apartments, mainly toward Flemington Road and the light rail. Close to half are rented. Harrison School opened in 2008 and Mother Teresa Primary in 2010, which tells you how fast families moved in.
At around 15 to 20 years old, these homes are past the new stage and into the comfort upgrade stage:
- Summer heat upstairs. Many Harrison houses are two storey, and the upper floor holds the heat on still January nights. A ceiling fan is usually the simplest fix.
- Moving from gas. Homes of this era were often built with gas ducted heating and gas hot water. Owners replacing them with reverse cycle systems or heat pump hot water need new circuits and enough board capacity.
- Bathrooms and laundries. Small exhaust fans vented into the roof were common. Ducting them outside helps with winter condensation.
- Apartments. Units near the light rail need owners corporation sign-off for anything outside the unit, including outdoor air conditioning units.
The jobs we are asked for most in Harrison
Three types of job make up most Harrison requests, and they often arrive together.
Fans and exhaust: ceiling fans in bedrooms and living areas, and bathroom fans ducted to the outside.
Heating and cooling: dedicated circuits and isolators for split and ducted reverse cycle systems, and wiring for heat pump hot water.
Switchboards and power: making space for those new circuits, extending safety switch protection and adding power points.
If you are planning to replace gas heating, tell us about any other changes you have in mind at the same time, such as an induction cooktop or EV charger installation. We can then size the board once rather than twice.
