Electricians in Franklin
Franklin runs along Flemington Road between the Gungahlin town centre and Mitchell, with three light rail stops (Manning Clark North, Mapleton Avenue and Nullarbor Avenue) on its edge. Homes went up from around 2007, and the suburb was planned with apartments and shops close to the main road and houses on smaller blocks behind them. The suburb takes its name from Miles Franklin, and most of its streets are named after other Australian women writers.
We are a family owned and run Canberra electrical business, licensed (476229C), insured and rated 5.0 on Google. Franklin owners, tenants and property managers all get the same thing from us: a fixed price before any work starts.
Franklin homes and what they need
Franklin is one of the most mixed suburbs in Gungahlin. In the 2021 Census about half its dwellings were separate houses, more than a third were apartments and the rest were townhouses. Close to half were rented, and the median age was 30. Those numbers drive the kind of work we see:
- Apartments with strata rules. In a unit block, your own power points and lights are yours to change, but the risers, meter rooms and anything on an external wall usually belong to the owners corporation. We work out which applies before quoting, so you are not caught halfway through a job waiting on a committee.
- Compact homes that run out of power points. Smaller floor plans often came with the minimum number of outlets. Home offices, gaming setups and kitchen appliances quickly lead to power boards on power boards, which is when people call us for extra points and dedicated circuits.
- Rentals. With so many homes leased, a lot of requests come from landlords and agents: repairs, smoke alarm and safety checks, and fixing things a tenant has reported.
- Wall mounted screens. Living rooms in apartments and townhouses are tight, so getting the TV onto the wall is a common request.
The homes are only 15 or so years old, so wiring condition is rarely the problem. The issue is usually capacity and layout.
The jobs we are asked for most in Franklin
Switchboard and power work is the job Franklin residents ask us to quote most often: extra power points, new circuits, safety switch faults and boards that are full. Our switchboards and power page has more detail.
Next is audio visual work, mostly TV wall mounting with hidden cabling and relocated antenna or data points. Lighting is third, from LED upgrades to new pendants and outdoor lights on townhouse courtyards; see lighting.
For houses with a garage, EV charger installation is becoming more common, and the light rail has not stopped people buying electric cars.
