Electricians in Richardson

Richardson sits between Johnson, Ashley and Isabella Drives, with its local centre and oval on May Gibbs Close. Its western neighbour is Calwell, where we are based, so we are often working a street or two away. The suburb is named after the novelist Henry Handel Richardson, and the streets carry the names of writers, many of them women.

One detail shapes a lot of the work here: about one home in four in Richardson is rented. So we hear from owner occupiers renovating their own place, and from landlords and property managers who want a rental kept safe and running between tenants.

Richardson homes and what they need

Richardson was named in 1975 and the first families arrived in 1981, which makes it one of the earlier suburbs in this part of Tuggeranong. The primary school followed in 1984. Almost every dwelling is a separate house, most with three bedrooms, and very few are townhouses or flats.

Electrically, a house built in the early 1980s can go either way. Some still have most of their original board. Others have been patched by several owners, so we find newer circuit breakers sitting next to older protection, a safety switch covering the power circuits but not the lights, and labels that no longer match the rooms. In a rental, small faults can also go unreported for a while, so a proper check when a house changes hands or tenants is money well spent.

The old Tuggeranong Homestead, a heritage site reached from Johnson Drive, is a reminder that this was grazing country not long before the houses went up.

The jobs we are asked for most in Richardson

Requests from Richardson are spread fairly evenly across four kinds of work:

  • Solar and batteries. New systems on north facing roofs and batteries added to existing panels. See solar and batteries.
  • Switchboards and power. Board replacements, added safety switches and extra power points for kitchens and bedrooms. Our switchboard upgrades page covers the options.
  • Lighting. LED downlights to replace old fittings, and security lights for rentals and family homes alike. Read about lighting.
  • Audio visual. TV wall mounting with hidden cables, antenna points and speaker wiring, on our audio visual page.

Hi Folks, i had a circuit breaker continually tripping and thus no powerpoints working. Nicolas skilffully trouble shooted the whole thing, and worked with remarkable speed and professionaliam. I thought i had identified all the powerpoints, but i had missed a critical one on the end of the line, and as fate would have it, the solar hot water pump had a short circuit and was plugged into that one. As i say, nicolas was tops. Being a DIY person i was very interested in his work and he explained it all to me as he went along. The call out cost seemed high, but i have nothing to compare it against. And nicolas more than earned the fee and i was super pleased with the price. His focus was getting the job done without going beyond the callout fee. He made that happen. I will definately use this company again. Great experience.

These guys are the best. Initially they came over to put a couple of power points in my bedroom then they ended up installing the TV on the wall. Their second visit was to change all of my light fitting to down lights and fans in the bedrooms. And also updated the meter box to make it compliant. They’ve done a fantastic job. So reliable and efficient. Lovely guys and their work is amazing. I would recommend them 100%.

I am very impressed with Nick at Fused electrical on the recent solar installation . There are a few reasons for this:
They are on time;
Their quote was the best value for money;
Their work is neat and tidy, leaving the site clean;
They explain the installation as well as setting up the app for monitoring;
And, they are friendly and knowledgeable.
I am very happy with the quality and performance of their work and the company.

I can’t speak highly enough of the job Nick and Andre did for me. They updated the power box, installed cameras front and back and removed my gas stovetop and replaced it with an induction cooktop. Highly recommend Fusion Electical.

We heard about Fused from Facebook and chose them for our solar and battery install (Aiko 14kw and 32kwh Sig). Nick came out to the house, gave us a personalised quote and made changes as requested. He explained every part of the quote and the timeline was great for us.
The system is flawless, we have been off-grid since and love being able to use power anytime we want!

There is a reason they have so many 5-star reviews, and we have recommended them to friends and family.
Thank you guys!

Richardson electrician FAQs

I rent out a house in Richardson. Can you do work between tenants?
Yes, and the gap between tenancies is often the easiest time for it. We can check the switchboard and safety switches, replace faulty power points and fittings, and send you a written fixed price first. If the property manager is your contact, we are happy to arrange access through them.
I am a tenant and a power point has stopped working. Who should call you?
Report it to your landlord or property manager first, because repairs to the property are their call and their bill. They are welcome to send the job to us. If anything is sparking, smoking or smells like burning, switch off at the main switch if it is safe and call the Evoenergy faults line.
Our Richardson house was built around 1982. Does the switchboard need replacing?
Not always, but houses from the early 1980s are worth checking. Some boards from then have been partly updated over the years and still carry a mix of old and new protection, with safety switches on only some circuits. We test it, tell you what we found and price any changes before we start.
Can you mount a TV and hide the cables in a brick veneer house?
Usually, yes. We mount the TV, add a power point behind it and run the HDMI and antenna cables inside the wall or through the roof space. In some walls a neat external cover is the better option, and we will tell you which on the day.
Is a Richardson roof suitable for solar?
Almost every home here is a separate house on its own block, so roof space is rarely the problem. Orientation, shading from trees and the state of the switchboard decide the design. We check all three on one visit and include any board work in the quote.
