Electricians in Calwell
Calwell sits at the southern end of Tuggeranong, between Isabella Plains and the slopes of Tuggeranong Hill, with the Calwell Centre on Webber Crescent as its local shops. It is also where Fused Electrical is based, and one of the suburbs we hear from most. The requests tend to have a common thread: someone is renovating, or has just bought, and wants the electrics brought up to the way they live now.
That makes sense when you look at the houses. Families first moved in from 1986, so plenty of homes have changed hands since then. Calwell homes and what they need
The 2021 Census shows Calwell is overwhelmingly freestanding houses, mostly three and four bedrooms, with a smaller number of townhouses and almost no apartments. Most are owner occupied, which is why so much of the work here is improvement rather than urgent repair.
A Calwell house from the late 1980s is newer than the 1970s stock up the road in Kambah, so we rarely find ceramic fuses. The issue is capacity. The board was laid out for the loads of that decade, often with a single safety switch covering only the power circuits and no spare positions for anything new. A layout that has been extended by a couple of previous owners can also be hard to follow, with circuits that are poorly labelled or carry more than they should.
So the usual Calwell job starts with an honest look at the board. Sometimes it just needs a few more safety switches and some tidying. Sometimes it is cheaper in the long run to replace it before a kitchen, solar system or EV charger goes in.
