Electricians in Gowrie

Gowrie is one of the smaller suburbs in Tuggeranong, a quiet pocket of family houses between Wanniassa, Monash, Richardson and Chisholm, with its local shops on Jeffries Street. Small as it is, we hear from Gowrie regularly, and the requests lean heavily one way: solar and lighting.

That fits the suburb. Almost every home here is a freestanding house on its own block, so owners have their own roof to work with and no body corporate to ask. Some of those roofs have carried panels for more than a decade, and those systems are now old enough to need attention.

Gowrie homes and what they need

The suburb was named in 1975 and the first homes went up in 1981, with Gowrie Primary School opening in 1983. Streets carry the names of decorated Australian Defence Force members. The houses are mostly family homes from the early 1980s.

Electrically, that era sits in an awkward middle. Wiring is generally in better shape than in the older suburbs to the north, but switchboards were built for a house with an electric oven and a hot water system, not one with solar, a battery and a heat pump. Spare space on the board is usually the first thing we check. We also look for any circuits still on rewireable fuses, because boards of this age are sometimes added to over the years rather than replaced.

The solar story is the interesting part. The ACT’s premium feed-in tariff ran from 2009 to July 2011 and pays participants for 20 years from the date their system was connected. Homes that signed up early will see those payments start ending around 2029. Inverters installed back then are also well into their working life. If your system dates from then, it is a good time to plan the next step: a replacement inverter, more panels, a battery, or all three.

The jobs we are asked for most in Gowrie

  • Solar and batteries. Tied for the top request: new systems, inverter replacements and adding a battery to existing panels. See our solar and batteries page for how we assess an older system.
  • Lighting. Equally common. LED swaps, extra fittings for dark rooms and outdoor sensor lights. Details on our lighting page.
  • Switchboards and power. Often needed before solar or battery work can go ahead. Read about switchboard upgrades.

Hi Folks, i had a circuit breaker continually tripping and thus no powerpoints working. Nicolas skilffully trouble shooted the whole thing, and worked with remarkable speed and professionaliam. I thought i had identified all the powerpoints, but i had missed a critical one on the end of the line, and as fate would have it, the solar hot water pump had a short circuit and was plugged into that one. As i say, nicolas was tops. Being a DIY person i was very interested in his work and he explained it all to me as he went along. The call out cost seemed high, but i have nothing to compare it against. And nicolas more than earned the fee and i was super pleased with the price. His focus was getting the job done without going beyond the callout fee. He made that happen. I will definately use this company again. Great experience.

These guys are the best. Initially they came over to put a couple of power points in my bedroom then they ended up installing the TV on the wall. Their second visit was to change all of my light fitting to down lights and fans in the bedrooms. And also updated the meter box to make it compliant. They’ve done a fantastic job. So reliable and efficient. Lovely guys and their work is amazing. I would recommend them 100%.

I am very impressed with Nick at Fused electrical on the recent solar installation . There are a few reasons for this:
They are on time;
Their quote was the best value for money;
Their work is neat and tidy, leaving the site clean;
They explain the installation as well as setting up the app for monitoring;
And, they are friendly and knowledgeable.
I am very happy with the quality and performance of their work and the company.

I can’t speak highly enough of the job Nick and Andre did for me. They updated the power box, installed cameras front and back and removed my gas stovetop and replaced it with an induction cooktop. Highly recommend Fusion Electical.

We heard about Fused from Facebook and chose them for our solar and battery install (Aiko 14kw and 32kwh Sig). Nick came out to the house, gave us a personalised quote and made changes as requested. He explained every part of the quote and the timeline was great for us.
The system is flawless, we have been off-grid since and love being able to use power anytime we want!

There is a reason they have so many 5-star reviews, and we have recommended them to friends and family.
Thank you guys!

Gowrie electrician FAQs

Our solar was installed around 2010. Is it worth adding a battery now?
It depends on what you are paid for exports and how much power you use at night. If your system is on the old ACT premium feed-in tariff, those payments run for 20 years from connection, so check your end date before changing anything. We can look at your inverter, your board and your usage and tell you honestly whether a battery makes sense yet.
Our inverter keeps showing a fault. Can you replace it without replacing the panels?
Usually, yes. Inverters tend to wear out well before the panels do. We check the panels and roof wiring, then quote a replacement inverter that suits the existing array, or a hybrid model if you want to add a battery later.
Can a 1981 Gowrie switchboard take solar and a battery?
Often it needs work first. Boards from the early 1980s usually have limited spare space and may not have safety switches on every circuit. We will tell you up front if the board needs an upgrade before the solar or battery goes in, and price both together.
What lighting upgrades do Gowrie homes usually need?
Most calls are for swapping old fluorescent and halogen fittings to LED, adding lights to rooms that only have one central fitting, and putting sensor lights over the driveway and back door. These are quick jobs that make a big difference in an older house.
Gowrie is a small suburb. Do you still come out for small jobs?
Yes. A single light fitting or a faulty power point is worth a quote request. We reply within 24 hours and can often fit a small Gowrie job around other work in this part of Tuggeranong.
