Electricians in Bonython
Bonython is on the western side of Tuggeranong, running down from Greenway to Gordon, with the Murrumbidgee River Corridor along one edge and Lower Stranger Pond at its northern end. The pond was built to catch stormwater before it reaches the river, and its walking tracks and resident swans and pelicans are a big part of local life.
From our base in Calwell, Bonython is part of our home patch. It is also the most mixed suburb in this corner of Canberra. About six homes in ten are separate houses, and roughly four in ten are townhouses or units, so the way a job is approved and wired can differ a lot from one street to the next.
Bonython homes and what they need
The suburb was named in 1986 and construction started in 1989, on what had been grazing land. Streets are named after notable South Australians and South Australian rivers and districts, following the newspaper owner Sir John Langdon Bonython. Bonython Primary School opened in 1992.
That makes the houses here among the younger ones in Tuggeranong. Boards from the late 1980s and early 1990s generally have circuit breakers and a safety switch, so the work is less about replacing dangerous gear and more about adding to it: outdoor circuits, data cabling, chargers and modern lighting.
Townhouses and units bring their own steps. Many share a meter board or have cable routes that cross common property, so anything beyond the walls of your unit usually needs the owners corporation to agree. Houses that back onto the river reserve, on the other hand, have more outdoor area to light and more reason to keep external wiring in good condition.
The jobs we are asked for most in Bonython
Bonython requests fall across three areas:
- Lighting. LED upgrades inside, plus garden, deck and path lighting for the bigger backyards. See our lighting page.
- Data and cabling. Network points for home offices and TVs, and better Wi-Fi coverage in two storey layouts. Read about data and cabling.
- EV chargers. Chargers in house garages and, with strata approval, in townhouse garages. Our EV chargers page explains what we check first.
