Electricians in Greenway
Greenway is the heart of Tuggeranong. It takes in the Tuggeranong Town Centre and the shores of Lake Tuggeranong, and it is the one suburb in the district where most people live in an apartment or townhouse rather than a house. Electrical work here comes with an extra party in the conversation: the owners corporation.
We quote for individual owners and tenants who want something done inside their unit, and for building committees looking after common property. Either way, we work out early who has to approve what, so the job is not held up after it is booked.
Greenway homes and what they need
The suburb was gazetted in 1986 and established in 1988, named after the colonial architect Francis Greenway, and its streets are named after architects. At the 2016 Census, townhouses still outnumbered apartments. Then more lakeside apartment buildings went up, and the population more than doubled between the 2016 and 2021 Censuses. Nearly two in three homes are now apartments, about a third are townhouses, and there are only a handful of separate houses.
That mix changes what people need. In an apartment, your own small distribution board controls your lights and power points, while the main switchroom, the lifts, the car park lighting and the intercom belong to everyone. Townhouse complexes are similar, with shared driveways, meter panels and sometimes shared roofs.
EV charging is the clearest example. In most existing buildings the car park power is run by the owners corporation, which makes billing and load management the hard part, not the charger itself. ACT unit titles law now says permission for sustainability infrastructure, including EV chargers, must not be unreasonably withheld, and new strata buildings must be built EV ready. Older Greenway blocks still need a proper plan.
The jobs we are asked for most in Greenway
- Security systems. Tied for the top request. Video doorbells, cameras for townhouse courtyards and garages, and intercom repairs or upgrades. See our security systems page.
- Switchboards and power. Equally common: tripping circuits, extra power points, and replacing a unit’s distribution board. Read about switchboards and power.
- EV chargers. Chargers in private garages and shared car parks, with metering sorted out. Our EV chargers page explains the options.
- Heating and cooling. Split systems for apartments and townhouses, where the outdoor unit location usually needs approval. See heating and cooling.
- Solar and batteries. Mostly for townhouses with their own roof space, on our solar and batteries page.
