Electricians in Palmerston
Palmerston was one of the first residential suburbs built in Gungahlin, and the houses show it in a good way: solid, well laid out family homes that are now old enough to need some electrical attention. Most of what we quote here is about bringing a mid 1990s home up to how people live today, with better lighting, safer switchboards and cooler rooms in summer.
We are a family owned and run Canberra business, licensed (476229C), insured and rated 5.0 on Google. Every Palmerston job gets a fixed price before any work begins.
Palmerston homes and what they need
The suburb was gazetted in 1991 and the first homes were finished from 1994, around the streets off Kosciuszko Avenue that take their names from Australian mountains. The primary school opened in 1995. So a typical Palmerston home is now around 30 years old, which is about when the original fittings start to wear out.
The 2021 Census shows a mix that is unusual for Gungahlin. About six in ten homes are separate houses, and roughly four in ten are duplexes, townhouses and other attached homes. More than a quarter are rented. That shapes the work in a few ways:
- Lighting from the 1990s. Halogen downlights, fluorescent battens in kitchens and laundries, and outdoor lights that have faded over three decades are all common. Swapping them for LEDs cuts power use and heat in the ceiling.
- Switchboards from the same era. Many original boards have a single safety switch covering the power points only. Lights and fixed appliances can be left unprotected, and there is often no spare room for a new air conditioner or induction cooktop circuit.
- Attached homes. In a duplex or townhouse, a shared wall, meter box or supply can mean the neighbour or an owners corporation has a say. We work out who needs to sign off before we quote.
- Rentals. Landlords and property managers ask us for repairs and safety checks, and we can deal with tenants on access.
The jobs we are asked for most in Palmerston
Lighting is the job Palmerston residents ask us to quote most often. That covers LED downlight upgrades, new pendants when a kitchen is redone, and sensor lights over driveways and side gates. See our lighting page for the options.
Next is switchboard and power work: replacing tired boards, adding safety switches to every circuit, extra power points for home offices and tracking down a breaker that keeps tripping.
Third is ceiling fans and exhaust fans. A ceiling fan in a west facing bedroom makes a real difference in January, and a properly ducted bathroom fan helps stop winter mould on 30 year old ceilings.
Getting a quote
Fill in the free quote form with a short description and a couple of photos, especially of your switchboard if the job involves new circuits. We reply within 24 hours. Small jobs can often be priced from photos; bigger ones we look at in person first. The price is fixed, so it does not creep up once the work starts. You can also ring 0434 913 935.
Palmerston sits in the middle of our Gungahlin service area, so the neighbouring suburbs listed below are covered too.
