Electricians in Wanniassa
Wanniassa sits between Kambah and the Erindale Centre, the shopping and services hub on its south-east corner. We get steady quote requests from here, and a lot of them come from people part way through a renovation.
That makes sense. Most Wanniassa homes are now around 50 years old, and that is the age when kitchens, bathrooms and laundries get pulled out and redone. A renovation is the best time to sort the electrics too, because walls and ceilings are already open.
Wanniassa homes and what they need
The suburb name was gazetted in 1974 and the houses went up through the mid-1970s, on land that was once part of the Wanniassa pastoral run, which dates back to the 1830s. Nearly nine in ten homes are separate houses. The rest are mostly townhouses, with very few apartments.
When the original kitchen or bathroom comes out, we often find wiring that was fine for 1975 but not for a modern room. Typical examples are a single power point where an island bench now goes, one ceiling light for the whole kitchen, or a bathroom heater on a shared circuit. Anything new we install has to meet today’s wiring rules, which means safety switch protection, and the old board may not have room for it.
Our advice for Wanniassa renovators: get the electrician in before the cabinet maker finalises the plans. Moving a power point on paper costs nothing. Moving it after the splashback is tiled costs a lot more.
To the east, across Erindale Drive, is the Wanniassa Hills Nature Reserve. It is a handy landmark for directions, and homes on that side of the suburb tend to want good outdoor and security lighting.
The jobs we are asked for most in Wanniassa
- Lighting. Tied for the most requested job here. New LED downlights and pendants for renovated kitchens, under-cabinet strips, and replacing tired fluorescent fittings in living areas. See our lighting page.
- Solar and batteries. Just as common. Many owners are adding panels or a battery once the renovation is finished. Read more on solar and batteries.
- Switchboards and power. Often the job that unlocks the others. Our switchboard upgrades page explains what a replacement involves.
- EV chargers. Wall chargers in garages and carports, sized to suit your board. Details on our EV chargers page.
- Data cabling. Network points for studies and TV walls, easiest to run while walls are open. See data and cabling.
Security work such as cameras and video doorbells also comes up now and then.
