Electricians in Nicholls
Nicholls takes in Gold Creek Village, the golf course and the western side of Gungahlin Pond, and most of its streets are named after Australian sportspeople. It was one of the first parts of Gungahlin to be built, with the first estate under way in 1992 on land that had been the Gold Creek farm until 1990. The houses that went up through the rest of that decade are some of the largest in the district.
We are a family owned and run Canberra electrical business with 35+ years of combined experience, licensed under ACT licence 476229C and fully insured. Every Nicholls job gets a fixed price up front.
Nicholls homes and what they need
The 2021 Census paints a clear picture. Nearly nine in ten Nicholls dwellings are separate houses, and about seven in ten have four or more bedrooms. About four in ten are owned outright and fewer than one in six are rented, so most owners have been in their homes a long time and are spending on them rather than moving.
Large homes built in the 1990s tend to share a few traits:
- A lot of lighting, much of it original. Formal living rooms, family rooms, long hallways and double garages were often fitted with rows of halogen downlights. Replacing them with LEDs cuts power use noticeably in a house this size and removes a lot of heat from the ceiling.
- Big roofs that suit solar. Many Nicholls homes already have panels, some from the first wave of rooftop solar. Owners now ask whether to add a battery, replace an ageing inverter or expand the system.
- Large gardens. Blocks around the golf course and the pond often have established gardens that look good at night with the right lighting, and long side paths that benefit from sensor lights.
- Boards that are full. Even a generous 1990s board can run out of room once ducted cooling, a pool or spa pump and solar are added.
The jobs we are asked for most in Nicholls
Lighting is the job Nicholls residents ask us to quote most often. That includes whole-house LED upgrades, dimmers, pendants over kitchen benches and outdoor garden and security lighting. Our lighting page shows what we install.
Second is solar and batteries. We look at existing systems, check whether a battery suits your inverter and usage, and handle the board work that goes with it. If you are also thinking about a car charger, EV charger installation is easier to plan at the same time as a battery.
Board capacity sits behind both. Where a lighting or battery job needs more space or extra safety switches, we cover that through our switchboards and power work and include it in the same quote.
Getting a quote
Use the free quote form and tell us what you have in mind. For lighting, a rough count of fittings helps. For solar, a photo of the inverter label and your switchboard saves a visit or two. We get back to you within 24 hours, and the price you receive is fixed. Calls are welcome on 0434 913 935.
Nicholls is part of our wider Gungahlin area, and we cover the suburbs around it as well.
