Electricians in Casey
Casey is one of the younger parts of Gungahlin. Roadworks started in 2008, the first residents moved in around 2010, and most of the suburb filled up through the decade after. The wiring in these homes is modern, so we are rarely called to fix something old. Instead people ask us to add things the builder left out or that a growing family now needs.
We are a licensed and insured, family owned and run Canberra business. Each job is priced up front as a fixed quote, and we get back to you within a day.
Casey homes and what they need
The 2021 Census counted about three quarters of Casey homes as separate houses and just over a fifth as townhouses or other attached homes, with very few apartments. They are big homes too: more than four in ten have four or more bedrooms, and the median age of residents is 32. That is a lot of young families, home offices and screens under one roof.
Three things come up again and again in houses of this age:
- Full switchboards. A 2010s board was usually sized for the circuits on the original plans. Add ducted heating and cooling, an induction cooktop, a spa or an EV charger and there may be no space for the new breaker, or the main switch may be close to its limit.
- Gas to electric. Nearly every Casey home was built well before the ACT stopped new residential gas network connections in December 2023, and many still run gas heating and hot water. Moving to heat pump hot water and reverse cycle heating means planning circuits and checking the board has the capacity.
- Builder-standard fit out. Homes often came with a basic light in each room, a TV point in one spot and Wi-Fi expected to cover the whole house. Owners then want better lighting, wall mounted screens and wired data.
The suburb’s Group Centre, Casey Market Town near Horse Park Drive, opened in 2016, and much of Casey’s medium density housing sits close to it.
The jobs we are asked for most in Casey
Switchboard work leads the list in Casey. See switchboards and power for board upgrades, new circuits and safety switches.
Lighting is next: LED upgrades, feature pendants, garden and facade lighting. Our lighting page has the details. Third is fans and exhaust, mostly ceiling fans for upstairs bedrooms that hold the heat.
Casey also asks us for more home technology work than most suburbs:
- Audio visual: TV wall mounting with hidden cables, antenna points and in-ceiling speakers.
- Security systems: CCTV, alarms and video doorbells.
- Data and cabling: Cat6 points to bedrooms and the study, and tidying the NBN connection.
