Electricians in Taylor
Taylor sits at the northern tip of Gungahlin, below One Tree Hill and the NSW border. Building started here in 2017, so most homes are less than ten years old. The electrical work is less about repairs and more about finishing a new house properly and getting it ready to run without gas.
We are a family owned and run Canberra business, licensed and insured, and every job is priced as a fixed quote before we start.
Taylor homes and what they need
The 2021 Census showed a suburb of young families in big houses: more than eight in ten homes are separate houses, the average home has 3.6 bedrooms and 3.4 people, and the median age is 30. The Margaret Hendry School opened in 2019 to cater for them.
Two things shape the electrical side.
Builder handover gaps. Project homes are built to a fixed inclusions list. Ceiling fans, extra power points, outdoor lights and data cabling are commonly left out or kept to a minimum to hold the price down. Owners move in, live with it for a summer, then call us to add them.
No gas. The ACT stopped new gas network connections for homes from 8 December 2023. Earlier Taylor homes may have a gas cooktop or hot water, but blocks approved after the cut-off are all-electric. In those houses the switchboard carries everything: heat pump hot water, reverse cycle heating and cooling, induction cooking and, more and more, a car. Planning for that load early avoids a second board upgrade later.
The jobs we are asked for most in Taylor
Fans are the job Taylor owners ask us to quote most often. New homes often come with none, and upstairs bedrooms get warm. Our fans and exhaust page covers ceiling fans and bathroom and laundry exhaust fans.
Next is lighting: extra downlights in living areas, pendants over the island bench, and facade, garden and sensor lights the inclusions list skipped. Third is switchboards and power, mainly extra power points and new circuits for things added after handover.
Because so many Taylor homes are all-electric, we also wire:
- EV charger installation in the garage, including solar-linked charging.
- Solar and batteries, adding storage to an existing system or a battery-ready board.
- Heating and cooling circuits for split systems and heat pump hot water.
- Data and cabling for home offices and wall mounted TVs.
Getting a quote
The easiest way is the free quote form. List everything you want done, attach a photo of the switchboard and, if you have it, the electrical plan from your builder. That lets us plan cable runs once and give you a single fixed price. We reply within 24 hours, and you can call 0434 913 935 if you would rather talk it through.
Taylor is one of the newest suburbs in our Gungahlin area, and we cover the suburbs around it too.
