Electricians in Theodore
Theodore sits on the south-eastern edge of Tuggeranong, bounded by Tharwa Drive and the Monaro Highway, with Tuggeranong Hill rising behind the back fences along one edge. It is a quiet, almost entirely residential place, and a lot of what we do here is shaped by that edge-of-the-reserve position.
Most Theodore requests fall into three groups: keeping the house comfortable, lighting the outdoor areas properly, and having a plan for when the power goes out. We also get the usual switchboard and solar work you would expect in a suburb of this age.
Theodore homes and what they need
Theodore was gazetted in 1975 but houses only went up from 1986. The 2021 Census counted almost nothing but freestanding homes, most with three or four bedrooms, and no apartments at all. Some are two storey, and many have a long hallway of bedrooms that can trap heat on a summer afternoon.
Living beside Tuggeranong Hill Nature Reserve brings a few specific things. Yards that back onto the reserve are dark at night, so good outdoor lighting matters. Outdoor wiring takes more weather and wildlife than it would in a built-up street. And when the Orroral Valley fire was burning in early 2020, the ACT Emergency Services Agency told Theodore residents to activate their bushfire survival plans. That is a good reason to think about backup power and the condition of everything electrical outside.
Inside, a late-1980s switchboard usually has circuit breakers, but it may be short on safety switches and spare room. That becomes the deciding factor when solar, a battery or a new split system is on the list. Bathrooms from this era also tend to have small ceiling exhaust fans that dump damp air into the roof space instead of venting it outside, which is worth fixing while we are up there.
The jobs we are asked for most in Theodore
- Fans. Ceiling fans for bedrooms and living rooms are what Theodore households ask us about most often, along with bathroom exhaust fans that actually vent outside. See fans and exhaust.
- Switchboards. Adding safety switches, making room for new circuits, or replacing a crowded board. Our switchboards and power page has the detail.
- Solar and battery backup. New systems, batteries on existing panels, and backup circuits that keep essentials running. Read more on solar and batteries.
- Lighting and comfort. Outdoor lighting for paths, decks and the back boundary, and wiring for split systems and heating.
